*BEAR CUB (Whatley) 2003
(MEXICAN ART X BEAR CLAWS)
20" ML SEV 6 to 7" TET
An absolute garden treasure from the late Oscie Whatley... BEAR CUB is a distinctive, velvety, glowing red that attracts garden visitors like a magnet! The ruffled petals are completely surrounded with a creamy white edge and it has a small yellow to green throat. The white edge begins at the throat as a thin white wire, and becomes wider as it twists and turns along the petals, displaying an assortment of white hooks, tendrils and spikes! The white edge is present even when the weather is cool. The sepals are slightly recurved and also have a pencil white edge. A "must have" for hybridizers working with fancy-edged reds. A vigorous grower, BEAR CUB makes small to medium size fans and the blooms will not be mistaken for anything else in the garden! Very hardy and fertile both ways with 3-way branching and 20 buds. Very limited!
You are bidding on a very nice DOUBLE fan.
