Salix caprea 'Pendula', Weeping Pussy Willow Tree.

Absolutely breathtaking, this spectacular small weeping tree makes the perfect small-space specimen or accent planting in any moist to wet soil.

Weeping Pussy Willow offers graceful, pendulous branches clothed in silky silver catkins that appear in early spring before the shiny foliage. The branches cascade beautifully right down to the ground around a slender trunk.

Typically the weeping variety is grafted or budded onto an upright Willow stem, but what to do is take a cutting from the weeping pussy willow, root the cutting, (very easy, will root in water) then train the new plant to grow as a single stem tree, then once it's about 5 or 6 feet high train it to develop a weeping head.

When you grow Weeping Pussy Willow from cuttings it's more difficult to get them to stand upright on their own, but there are many interesting ways to stake them or anchor them to a wall that makes them even more fun. Some people even plant two or three together and braid them which makes the stem more rigid.

Ideal for small gardens, its graceful form, foliage and flowers provide year-round interest. Expect it to reach just 6 to 8 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide in 10 years. Best in moist to damp soil.

NEARLY ALL OF THE DAVE'S GARDEN FEEDBACK WAS FOR LILIUM, BUT I HAD FAR MORE INVESTED IN NATIVE PLANTS AND BULBS, ALL OF WHICH ARE NOW EXTINCT DUE TO THE ANTI-FARMING ATTITUDE IN OREGON.
