DESCRIPTION

Corydalis sempervirens, Pink Corydalis, Pale Corydalis, Rock Harlequin

Synonyms: Capnoides sempervirens, Corydalis glauca, Fumaria sempervirens

A native biennial or hardy annual wildflower found from Alaska to Newfoundland, south to the Pacific Northwest, northern Rockies, north-central Midwest, and east to the Atlantic Coast down to Georgia. Rare in Montana. is is found growing in disturbed areas, particulary after fires.

The spurred flowers are pink with a yellow tip, foliage is blue-green and lacy. This attractive and hardy plant is related to bleeding heart, but resembles columbines in habit and with the lacy leaves.

Corydalis, from the Greek korudallis (korydallis), "crested lark", in reference to the shape of the flower resembling that of the bird's spur.

sempervirens, from the Latin, semper, "always", virens, "verdant, green"; hence, "evergreen"

This is a great plant for the sunny wildflower garden, rock garden or grown with sun sensitive plants to provide light shade and help remove excess water. It is also attractive grown with plants in large pots or in the perennial bed. It can self seed rampantly, when the seed pods split the tiny seeds can be flung many feet away. It is beleived that heat treatment or scarification can enhance germination but it doesn't seem to have any difficulty volunteering.

Prefers Climates with cold winters and cool summers

Height = 8"-30" tall

Full sun, light shade, well drained

Listed as threatened or endangered in several states:

THIS MAKES A GREAT NURSE PLANT FOR MY LILY SEEDLINGS, IT PROVIDES LIGHT SHADE AND TAKES UP EXCESS MOISTURE.

GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS ARE INCLUDED WITH THE SEEDS

NEARLY ALL OF THE DAVE'S GARDEN FEEDBACK WAS FOR LILIUM, BUT I HAD FAR MORE INVESTED IN NATIVE PLANTS AND BULBS, ALL OF WHICH ARE NOW EXTINCT DUE TO THE ANTI-FARMING ATTITUDE IN OREGON.
